By E. Smyth McKissick III, chairman, Presidential Search Committee
As I am sure you are aware, after 14 years of transformational leadership, Jim Barker has announced that he plans to retire as president and return to the faculty in the School of Architecture. The task that now falls to the Board of Trustees it to recruit a successor who can continue Clemson’s progress toward becoming one of the nation’s great public research universities.
Given your history as an advocate and ambassador for Clemson University, you are in a position to assist us with this extraordinary challenge. We are searching for a proven leader and visionary who can inspire the university community. It is expected that Clemson’s 15th President will have demonstrated extraordinary management abilities, will have a passion for educating and preparing students for successful lives and careers, will be deeply committed to promoting research that improves people’s lives, and will understand the strategic mission of a land grant university in the 21st Century.
Many of you were involved in the process to help us determine those characteristics and as a next step in this process, I would like to personally invite you to assist by identifying prospective candidates or submitting nominations of individuals that you believe we should consider. To review the leadership statement and find out more about how to submit nominations, please visit a special website that has been established to support the search: http://www.clemson.edu/presidential-search/
While applications and nominations will be accepted until a new President is selected, interested parties are encouraged to submit their materials to our consultant either by email or at the address below by August 31 to assure optimal consideration.
