By-the-numbers look at our freshman class

As the new school year arrives and campus is once again flooded with orange-wearing students, let’s take a minute to check out what our incoming freshman class looks like by the numbers.* (Click “next” to continue slideshow.)

Nearly 18,500 students applied to Clemson University this year, which is 1,500 more applications than last year. Of those applicants, more than 3,400* students are expected to enroll in fall semester. We’ll welcome about 1,200 transfer students to Tigertown as well.

Where our incoming freshmen are from
- About 62 percent* of incoming students are from South Carolina, while 38 percent are from out of state.
- There are 44 states and the District of Columbia represented in this incoming class.

Outside of South Carolina, the top five states with the most representation in this class are: North Carolina, Georgia, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland.

Where students rank
- In this year’s freshman class, the projected average SAT score is 1245.*
- Nearly 52 percent of incoming students were in the top 10 percent of their high school class.
