ME senior named Top Co-op

Melissa McPartland honored by the American Society of Engineering Education with the 2011 Top Co-op of the Year  AwardMelissa McPartland, a senior in mechanical engineering, has been honored by the American Society of Engineering Education with the 2011 Top Co-op of the Year Award. She was recognized for her acoustic testing and assembly work completed during three rotations with the Total Vehicle Validation Group at BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg, SC. One of her projects has been recognized at BMW’s research and development center in Munich, Germany where she will complete two more rotations this summer and fall.
In addition to her accomplishments in the classroom and on assignment at BMW, McPartland has been involved with Engineers Without Borders, a group dedicated to resolving quality of life issues in third-world countries through thoughtful and creative engineering.

McPartland’s acoustic work took place in BMW’s anechoic chamber, which is a sound proof room that allows testing at top speeds, while eliminating road noise.
